RELAYS (as of May 1, 2008)
• |
There is only one packet issued to a relay – team members share the same number. The packet cannot be separated. |
• |
All team members must be present together at the time of packet pickup in order for each participant to sign the waiver. No packet will be released until all team members have signed. |
• |
All team members (2 or 3) get body-marked with the team Race number. |
• |
Relay teams are provided a Velcro ankle strap instead of a plastic one. |
• |
The swimmer wears the colored swim cap and starts the race wearing the timing chip on an ankle. |
• |
The biker has one bike frame number, and one numbered sticker for the helmet; she takes the timing chip as a baton hand-off from the swimmer, attaching it to an ankle.
|
• |
The runner wears the paper bib number on the front of the body – and takes the timing chip from the biker, attaching it to an ankle. |
• |
The timing chip on the Velcro strap is the hand-off baton and MUST be worn on the ankle – no times, thus no results, can be recorded if it is worn in any other fashion. |
• |
Relays are entitled to two/three each of the amenities – souvenir Series bag, tank shirts, finisher medals. Volunteers will need to be alerted by the team members that the Race number represents a team – thus merits multiple items (the runner only in the finish chute please!) |
Each relay member will wear the team's chip - this will allow the team's splits to be recorded. The swimmer will start out wearing the chip, and then the chip will be given to the cyclist at T1. The cyclist will give the chip to the runner at T2. All relay handoffs will take place at the Relay bike rack inside the transition area. You will be directed to the Relay bike rack when you check in your bike on Saturday.
All relay members will have to leave the transition area when it closes at 7:00am (when the race starts). As soon as the relay swimmers enter the water, all cyclists and runners for every relay will be allowed to enter the transition area through a specially marked "Relay Gate," adjacent to the "Swim Entrance" of the transition area. The cyclist and runner will stand near their bike rack, which will be clearly marked for Relays. It is VERY IMPORTANT that all three relay members are body marked (team members can mark each other), and both the runner and cyclist should be ready to enter transition at that time. The volunteer at the transition entrance will be checking race numbers; he/she will only allow relay team members to enter through the marked Relay Gate.
Once the swimmer finishes her swim, she will enter the transition area through the same chute that all other swimmers will be using, and she will meet her cyclist at the Relay bike rack and hand off her timing chip to the cyclist. The runner will stay at the bike rack until the cyclist returns. The cyclist will hand off the timing chip to the runner, who will wear it during the run and across the finish line.
Our goal is to make the transition area as safe as possible; with 3000 women racing, this requires a cooperative spirit on the part of all athletes. We ask that relay members please be patient and enter the transition area at the designated time. It will help make transition smoother and safer for everybody.
